Our partnership with the Academic Success Center (ASC) provides student veterans a dedicated, veteran Academic Coach and offers the traditional services of the ASC, along with other unique opportunities to enhance academic success skills - all tailored for student veterans - within the convenience of the VRSC.
Meet Mike Dvoracek '87
Veteran Academic Coach
Mike Dvoracek '87 is a former Fightin' Texas Aggie and retired US Army who currently serves as a Scholastic Performance Specialist (Academic Coach) within the Academic Success Center.

Veteran Academic Coach Mike Dvoracek offers one-on-one academic skills coaching such as:
- Time Management
- Study Skills
- Note Taking Tips
- Reading Strategies
- Test Prep Strategies
- Finals Prep
- Recommendations & connections to additional resources
Mike holds weekly office hours within the VRSC. His Fall 2022 hours are:
- Wednesdays - 8:30A - 12:00P
- Thursdays - 1:00-4:30P
Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are highly encouraged, so schedule yours today!
Prior to each Fall and Spring semesters, the VRSC and ASC partner to host the Veteran Academic Academy (VAA) for new and incoming student veterans. This 3.5 hour "academic bootcamp" serves as an introduction to the time management, study, note-taking, reading, and test-prep skills offered by our Veteran Academic Coach that are key to a successful academic career at a Tier 1 institution. Tutoring is offered through the Academic Success Center and there are a number of options available. Visit the ASC Tutoring page for details and scheduling.
You know how some people use legos or other visual stimuli to learn math? That's a form of Supplemental Instruction (SI). While the ASC may not use legos, they do have SI available for a number of courses. Visit the ASC Supplemental Instruction page for details and the course schedule.
