ACADEMIC SUPPORT
Academic Success is one of the key pillars of our Student Veteran support model. We partner with Military Admission, the Academic Success Center, TAMU Libraries and other campus organizations to provide connections, resources, and individualized support.
The Office of Military Admissions is located within the VRSC and is key to successfully planning an academic path. With over 25 years of combined experience, the Military Admissions team is ready to assist prospective and current Aggie Veterans with activations and/or re-entry to Texas A&M, determining if credit for military service is available, evaluating if a current degree plan is the right one, and everything in-between. Don't let the term "admissions" fool you - they are here with support for every step of an Aggie Veteran's academic journey.
The VRSC has several spaces within the center that are dedicated as study spaces for Aggie Veterans. The Veterans Lounge and Aggie Shields Library both offer soft seating, study desks, and Open Access lab computers. The Veteran Heritage Hall is a large space perfect for individual and group study sessions, and offers three separate interactive Smartboards.
The Academic Success Center (ASC) understands that Aggie Veterans have different needs and employs dedicated Success Coaches. These individuals can help the transition from structured military life to academic autonomy with Time Management coaching. They also offer sessions for forming effective study habits, connections to supplemental instruction, and individual or group tutoring sessions. Appointments are available at the ASC and limited availability in the convenience of VRSC!
Located within the VRSC is a textbook lending library that currently contains around 6,000 volumes and is run by student organization, Aggie Shields. Commonly referred to as "Shields" the library offers fee-free loaner textbooks for Aggie Veterans and military-connected students at Texas A&M & Blinn. The library also loans out calculators, iClickers and other select supplies. Priority for lending is given to Aggie Veterans and Gold Star students; remaining volumes/supplies are open to other military-connected students.
The Academic Success Center's Study Hub connects students to course resources through its searchable database. Aggie Veterans can identify and locate resources by Subject Area, Type of Support, or Location. Additional resources and links to the Math Learning and Writing Centers, Helpful Study and Learning Handouts, and more are available through Study Hub!
The Student Veteran Study Room is located in the Evans' Library Annex 252C. Generously funded by the Hammill Foundation, this space is dedicated to student veterans and has a collaborative study table, soft seating, Open Access Labs, whiteboard and a WePresent monitor. Access to the Student Veteran Study Room is available only to student veterans when the Annex is open. For access contact SGM Donald Freeman ([email protected]) with your UIN. For general questions about the space and library hours contact AskUs (https://askus.library.tamu.edu) for more information.
In addition to our two key programs for academic support, we have a number of other program components that provide both direct and indirect impact on student veteran academic success, such as:

- SAVE and SAVE-SP

All VRSC programs are developed to ensure holistic student success and many of our programs have components that touch on more than one of the pillars of holistic success.
