The Colonel David Braswell '41 Student Veteran Recognition Award
Since 2012, the VRSC, in partnership with the Braswell Family, has recognized student veterans for their significant contributions to the campus, community, and success of current and future fellow student veterans. Historically, each month a student veteran was recognized as the Student Veteran of the Month. A Student Veteran of the Year was selected among the monthly recipients at the end of each academic year and that student was awarded "The Colonel David Braswell '41 Student Veteran Recognition Award," a generous, general scholarship award. In 2020, the VRSC evolved the program to a semester recognition program, in which one student veteran is selected from all the nominations as Student Veteran of the Semester. These honorees are recognized at the Troops to College (T2C) end of semester social and receive a certificate, challenge coin, and "The Colonel David Braswell '41 Student Veteran Recognition Award."
*"The Colonel David Braswell '41 Student Veteran Recognition Award" is generously funded by the Braswell Family - Lynn '62, Linda, Byron '70, Mike & Carol (Braswell) Wilson '74, Kyle '77, Dan '93 and Debbie '94.

Fall 2021
Cory Griswold
Colorado native Cory Griswold is a 14-year Air Force Veteran majoring in Animal Science. After being medically discharged from the Air Force, Cory and his family moved back to his home state where he was self-employed, owning a construction company and volunteered his time coaching youth basketball. Having spent a portion of his childhood on a cattle ranch, Cory's love for animals began at a young age and so, naturally, he and his wife, Amber, purchased their own ranch in 2015. Through ownership of his own ranch, Cory found a renewed interest in animal sciences and began his journey to an undergraduate degree at Colorado State University in 2019, and ultimately pursued admission to Texas A&M, which he was granted in 2021. Since arriving at Texas A&M, Cory quickly became involved with Student Veterans of America at Texas A&M (SVA), serving in Fall 2021 as the Event Coordinator and beginning Spring 2022, as chapter president. Cory has been instrumental in the successful rebuilding of the SVA and the proposal & adoption of the policy for priority registration for student veterans, and active in several community and campus organizations & committees. There is no doubt his continued service will only enhance Texas A&M as the destination of choice for student veterans. Congratulations, Cory!
Spring 2022
David Haney
David Haney is a prime example of our Core Value of Excellence. A 6.5 year Army veteran with multiple awards and commendations, David and his wife, Natalie and daughter, Clementine, moved to Texas in 2021 so he could pursue his degree. He is a History Major with a minor in geographic information systems who loves to collect old school-books and vinyl records, and is expecting to graduate Fall 2023. David’s contributions to student veteran success began when he became a VALOR leader. Always willing to step up to nearly any situation, David has quickly become our go-to for a number of those “extra” duties as a student. David has represented our student veteran population and the VRSC on more than one occasion, leaving all he interacted with impressed by him and the level of impact our Aggie veterans have the potential to make. He is never afraid to provide valuable and critical feedback, and when he does, he typically presents an improvement or alternative solution. David’s innovative ideas and input is bringing immense value to current and future Aggie veterans, and he is an instrumental part in bringing the VRSC to the next level of veteran services in higher education. Congratulations, David!
