GRADUATION INFORMATION
Student veteran success is our priority and we are honored to be a part of a student veteran's journey, from application through graduation! When that journey comes to an end, our graduation support programs are there to ensure student veterans receive the honors and recognition their hard work deserves.
Red, White & Blue Military Cord
Consistent with its rich military history, Texas A&M University proudly recognizes the commitment and selfless service of our military graduates by the red, white, and blue graduation cords. These cords identify our graduating active duty, National Guard, reserve and student veterans to signify the appreciation that Texas A&M University feels toward our military and veteran community for their service and sacrifice.
Prior to graduation in May & December, the VRSC hosts a Veteran Graduation Reception to present each graduating student veteran with a red, white and blue cord. The reception is typically on the Wednesday before graduation in the Stark Galleries of the Memorial Student Center.
Faculty/Staff Appreciation Coin
Acknowledging the exceptional support graduating student veterans have received from faculty and staff at TAMU is important to the VRSC. In addition to their military cord, graduates will also receive a specially designed “Appreciation” challenge coin. These coins are to be presented by the graduate to the faculty, staff member, or advisor that made the most significant impact on them during their time at A&M.
The VRSC Director will follow up with a personal letter of appreciation to the Faculty/Staff member recognized by each student veteran and copies of each letter are sent to the individual’s Department Head and Dean to help raise awareness of the great support that our faculty/staff provide student veterans.
For August graduates and our distance education students, you can contact the VRSC at 979-845-3161 or [email protected] to get more information about how to get your cord and appreciation coin.
NOTE – Students in the Health Science Center, Law School and Mays MBA programs will receive their cords and appreciation coins from their colleges.
Regalia Closet
The VRSC recognizes that the cost of graduation can add up quickly. To help alleviate, we offer regalia lending at no cost to our graduating student veterans. We offer the following regalia types:
UNDERGRADUATE - Gown, cap, and tassel
GRADUATES - Gown, Master's hood, cap, and tassel
All gowns and Master's hoods (if applicable) are to be picked up in the VRSC and must be returned to the VRSC. Caps and tassels may be kept or returned. The VRSC does currently not offer a mail option for regalia.
At this time, no PhD, MD, Dental, or Law regalia are available.
The Student Veteran Regalia Closet is generously funded through grants provided by Brazos Valley Cares.
