Veteran & Military Transition Toolkit
This page is serves as your hub for information, checklists and guides to facilitate your successful transition to Texas A&M.
Congratulations!
You're coming to Texas A&M, so...what now?

Whether it’s straight from military life or a smaller institution, transitioning to a large university like Texas A&M is a process. The VRSC has developed this "Transition Toolkit" to empower you through the process. Through peer-led evaluation and feedback, we have learned what information is critical for transitioning veteran & military students, which steps are often overlooked, and what tools students wished they would have had to successfully navigate their transition as an Aggie. Veteran & military students who utilize the information on this page, follow the guides, complete the checklists provided here, and engage with the resources and programs offered through the VRSC exhibit higher markers of success and develop a more robust and lasting network.
Step by Step: A Successful Transition
Step 1: Verify Your Military Status
The robust programs and services available to you through the VRSC and its partners are FREE and with the exception of our scholarships, only have a single eligibility requirement...you MUST be verified in the student information system as a veteran or military student. What does this mean? Military Admissions must receive documentation verifying service. This can be a DD-214, current orders, LES, or other documents respective to your service status. Being verified also ensures you will receive timely and essential communication!
Step 2: Complete Online Orientation
During Online Orientation, you will be asked if you are a veteran or military student. Doing so provides you access to specialized content and additional resources in preparation for your New Student Conference and arrival at Texas A&M. Be sure to select "Current or Former Military" to take advantage of this valuable experience!
Step 3: Military Student Session at New Student Conference
Join us in the VRSC on Day 1 of your New Student Conference for the Military Student Session. This session will include a quick but detailed workshop to prepare you for your next step in the transition process and a tour of the facility by fellow veteran & military students. This session is required for all new incoming undergraduate students and highly encouraged for all incoming graduate students. Can't wait to see you there!
Step 4: Vet Camp
The final step in the transition process is Vet Camp. Vet Camp is a peer-led event for incoming veteran & military students that will empower you through crucial knowledge combined with hands-on application and camaraderie for a successful, enjoyable, and impactful higher education experience. This event will include essential in-depth workshops, customized campus tours, networking, and priority status in the textbook lending program for the semester.
Step 5: Launch Your Success!
Everything available to you at Texas A&M is designed to develop and empower you for future success. Remaining engaged with VRSC programs and student and professional organizations will enhance your success in higher education and beyond! Questions on getting involved or need to know where to start? The VRSC is a great place to engage with peers, take advantage of staff expertise, and explore opportunities.
